Background
In the past two decades and since the dawn of the new millennium, the world has witnessed a series of crises that have exposed significant leadership failures across various sectors. From the financial meltdown of 2008 to the ongoing climate crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic, and political upheavals, it is evident that traditional leadership models are struggling to cope with the complexities of the modern world. According to a 2021 study, only 11% of companies reported having a strong leadership bench, the lowest in a decade. This decline in leadership quality is not confined to the corporate world but extends to education, environmental management, politics, and technology. A World Economic Forum survey conducted in 2023 founds out that a staggering 86% of respondents believe the world is grappling with a leadership crisis. This alarming disconnect between power and competency underscores the urgent need for a new paradigm of leadership.
